The Best Refrigerator Water Filters (2021 Reviews)

Water. It’s one of the most important components of our world.

We try and try to drink enough of it but most of us usually fall short.

It can be hard to get those eight glasses a day in! We should all make a greater effort, though.

Our bodies are made up of up to 60% water.

That’s right, 60%! Over half of you is just…. water. If that’s the case, shouldn’t we be more careful about our water consumption? Meaning not just how much water we consume but the quality of water we consume.

Unfortunately, if you’re not drinking pure spring water, the water you get from the tap is most likely going to be contaminated to some degree.

Usually, you can taste either the chlorine or other chemicals but often times there are trace elements that go unnoticed.

It’s essential to have the right water filter to protect you. You need the best refrigerator water filter.

Check out our list of the best refrigerator water filters and be on your way to making at least 60% of you healthier.

The 13 Best Refrigerator Water Filters For 2021

Frigidaire WF2CB PureSource2

Please note before continuing!

We are simply reviewing the quality of each individual water filter. Each water filter is going to be compatible with very specific refrigerator models.

To make things a bit easier, in our table we’ve included which refrigerator brands each water filter is compatible with.

However, you’ll want to take an even closer look at the Amazon page to make sure it’s compatible with your specific model.

Okay, now that’s out of the way, let’s take a look at the Frigidaire WF2CB PureSource2.

First off, this filter is NSF-certified. NSF is an independent third-party certification body that tests and certifies products to make sure that they meet public health and safety standards.

It’s not necessarily a make or break, but it is good to know if a filter is NSF-certified.

This filter does a great job of removing a lot of toxins including cysts, particulates (class 1 and 3), Turbidity, Lead, Mercury, Herbicides, and a few other lesser-known toxins.

This is a little pricey for only getting one filter, but you only have to replace it every nine months, as opposed to the standard six months.

Waterdrop LT500P

The next water filter we have is the Waterdrop LT500P.

The previous filter was only compatible with a few specific Frigidaire models but this one is a bit more versatile.

It’s compatible with LG, ATAG, and Kenmore.

Like we mentioned, make sure you check the specific models! But it should be good to go with most of the models from those companies.

As far as LG goes, this is definitely one of the best water filters for LG refrigerators.

This is NSF certified by NSF 42 for not just chlorine but also bad taste and odor reduction.

This is also super cost-effective. For the price of one of the last filters, you can get three of these filters!

Yes, you’ll have to change this one every six months instead of every nine months, but it still saves you money.

Getting those filters in can sometimes be a bit tricky but Waterdrop has an excellent customer service team if you happen to run into any issues.

The filtration is second to none. The premium carbon block is made of selected coconut shells and offers an extremely high contaminant-absorption rate.

If this is compatible with your refrigerator, we highly recommend the Waterdrop LT500P.

You’ll be able to taste a difference almost immediately.

GE MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

Coming up next is a water filter specifically for GE.

It’s from Pureline and you can purchase it either by itself or in a three-pack.

One great thing about this filter is that it’s super simple to install.

As far as how long it lasts, it’ll keep your water fresh for about six months.

Some people report it going longer, but you’ll have to taste for yourself and revisit the quality after six months.

This is a great alternative to having to purchase an exact GE water filter, because it’s much, much cheaper.

If you’re worried about going off-brand or that it won’t be as good – then don’t.

This works just as well as the original GE one and at a fraction of the cost.

It filters out all the same toxins such as lead, mercury, and asbestos.

While this is specifically made for GE, with an adapter, it can become compatible with Kenmore, Hart, Marc, Fort, and a few other refrigerator brands.

Even if you are skeptical about purchasing a non-OEM water filter, we advise you to try it at least once.

In this case, the off-brand product works just as well as the brand name and will save you a decent chunk of change.

Sante Refrigerator Water Filters

How can you not trust a refrigerator water filter brand that means “health” in French?

Already sold!

Just kidding, let’s take a look and see how it stacks up against the rest.

It’s compatible with a decent number of brands for starters.

Right out of the box, without any sort of adapter, you can use this with Whirlpool, PUR, or Kenmore.

This does filter all of the usual contaminants including chlorine, dirt, rust, heavy metals, and any other sediments via its activated carbon.

In addition, it probably generates some of the best tasting water. Period.

This is a reliable filter and it comes in a three-pack at a decent price!

At the time of this article, you could get a three-pack for right around 50 USD.

One annoying thing about this filter is that it is a bit of a pain to get in.

You’ll need to use a little bit of brute strength to make sure you get it into place.

Once you do though, you’ll have some of the best tasting water (and also ice!) that you’ve ever had.

Guess Sante really lives up to its name.

EveryDrop by Whirlpool Refrigerator

Making it onto our list for the second time is another filter from EveryDrop!

They may not be the most mainstream company, but if you’ve done any research into water filters, you’ll definitely have heard their name.

This filter probably has the widest range of compatibility.

It’s compatible with models from quite a few brands including Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn Air, and Amana.

In fact, it’s the only filter certified by Whirlpool Corporation to function with the mentioned brands.

It’s NSF certified to decrease the most contaminants possible including not only pharmaceuticals but also waterborne parasites, lead, and pesticides.

Make sure you replace this filter every six months (or every 200 gallons, whichever comes first) and you’ll be good to go!

It is definitely on the pricier end of the price spectrum, but it really does its job and leaves you with great tasting water.

Plus, it’s the only filter certified by Whirlpool to work with their brands.

You don’t necessarily always need the official replacement, but it can provide some peace of mind.

Frigidaire ULTRAWF

This is another filter that does an amazing job at not just filtering out a variety of contaminants, but also at significantly improving the taste of the water.

This filter is NSF Standard 2 certified.

That means, among other things, that it’s certified to reduce chlorine, taste, and also odor.

But of course, it still removes the worst toxins that can cause ill health.

It is also certified to remove health-related contaminants such as lead, volatile organic chemicals, and asbestos.

Make sure you note – this filter only works in Frigidaire refrigerators and is meant to replace the filters in them only!

You might be able to get it to work in some refrigerators with an adapter if you wish.

All in all, this is a solid refrigerator water filter from Frigidaire.

Would we necessarily go out of our way to get it if we didn’t have Frigidaire?

Probably not if only for the fact that you would definitely need an adapter.

However, if you have a Frigidaire refrigerator already, you’re in good hands.

Do not go out of your way to get a more expensive replacement.

This one works just fine and will give you delicious, clean-tasting water without the high price tag.

IcePure Premium Refrigerator Replacement Water Filter

IcePure has developed a great replacement water filter that will work across a wide range of refrigerators.

Some of these refrigerators include Whirlpool, Pur, KitchenAid, and Maytag.

This replacement water filter from IcePure is, of course, NSF certified.

It is lead-free compliant, chlorine reduction, and material safety certified.

Another huge benefit that you get from IcePure is that these have a double capacity filtration life.

What does that mean?

This filter will last up to 1500 gallons, which is significantly more than your average refrigerator water filter.

You can buy these in just about any quantity you want, and at a discount as well.

You can purchase either one, two, three, five, or six. And you get more savings the more that you buy!

Are you worried at all about buying from a company other than the manufacturer?

No worries.

They actually offer a 90-day warranty. If anything goes wrong or tastes weird, you’ll be able to return it for a full refund.

GE MWF Refrigerator Water Filter

You probably already spent a ton of money on a brand-new refrigerator.

How annoying is it that you also unknowingly committed to a lifetime of purchasing refrigerator water filters?

One way that you can combat these high prices is by buying generic brand water filters!

If you do a little digging, you can often find them for 10-20 USD cheaper.

And what to know what?

Often times they are often just as good as the ones from the manufacturer!

As long as they are NSF certified in the same categories, there is virtually no difference.

There could be a difference in the methodology which could possibly cause a slightly different taste.

But if you’re only worried about removing contaminants then this is an extremely solid option that will save you a little bit of money.

Absolute worst-case scenario, you use it for six months and then go back to the GE water filter.

However, you could find out that you actually love it and don’t need to spend the extra money.

You never know until you try!

EveryDrop by Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Filter

EveryDrop might just be one of the best refrigerator water filters out there.

This water filter from them is NSF approved but is only approved to filter out 23 contaminants while some of the more advanced ones will filter out 24 contaminants.

This cartridge is super easy to replace and requires no tools whatsoever.

You should replace this filter every six-month or 200 gallons.

The longer you wait after this period, the worst at filtering your filter is going to get and it won’t necessarily completely filter out everything you want it to.

It also dispenses water at a rate slightly faster than most other filters.

Most filters have a dispensing water flow rate of only .50 gallons per minute and this one from EveryDrop has a dispensing water flow rate of .75 gallons per minute.

That’s a 50% increase in how fast this will filter your water.

That may not sound like a lot, but it will make a pretty big difference in your day to day life.

Trust us.

And don’t forget! This filters not only the water that comes out of your fridge but also the ice!

Kenmore 9083

This is a genuine Kenmore filter that’s meant to replace whatever filter came with your corresponding Kenmore refrigerator model.

This guy is loaded with certifications.

It has NSF 42, 53, and 401 certifications.

Some of the things it does is reduce lead and other metals, chlorine taste and odor, and also gets rid of some pesticides and pharmaceuticals.

Not all. But some.

This should last you a full six months before you need to replace it.

However, some people had reported slower water flor earlier than six months.

If you notice that how fast your water comes out slows down considerably, then you might want to change it a bit sooner.

If your water slows down, that most likely means the filter is not working optimally and it might be letting toxins in.

It’s worth mentioning that in addition to almost all Kenmore refrigerator models, this will also fit some Maytag, Kitchenaid, and Whirlpool models.

This specific model of the filter also reduces pharmaceuticals, which not all water filters will do.

Vitalium Refrigerator Water Filter

Making an appearance for the first time on our list is a water filter from Vitalium!

They are another alternative to the manufacturer that you can try if you’re sick of paying the high prices that come with purchasing directly from the manufacturer.

Vitalium filters use revitalized technology that’s unique and also works.

It goes through four different stages.

The first stage removes organics, suspended material, and sand rust sediment.

The second stage removes chlorine benzene.

The third stage removes ions and also heavy metal ions.

The fourth stage is where only H2O and microelements go through.

After the fourth stage, you will still have a small number of microelements, but they will hardly be present.

The four-filter system eliminates most contaminants up to 99%.

You have come contaminants that will only reach about 91%, but that’s fairly rare.

Overall this is filter really just proves that you absolutely don’t need to spend an arm and a leg purchasing the filter through the manufacturer.

Especially because shipping is usually very expensive, and it takes weeks to arrive.

Refrigerator Water Filter EDR2RXD1

This refrigerator water filter is honestly one of the best refrigerator water filters out there.

It works almost exclusively with Whirlpool refrigerators but if you have a Whirlpool refrigerator, then you are in luck.

This cartridge is pretty well known for being super easy to replace. In just a few seconds, and without much hassle, your new water filter will be installed, and you’ll have clean, tasty water again.

This comes in a two-pack and each one is going to last you about six months.

If you can’t do the math, that means this one purchase is going to last you a whole year.

This isn’t NSF certified but it’s certified by Whirlpool to remove the most common contaminants, and also pharmaceuticals.

While the previous water filter had a four-stage filtration system, this one only has three stages.

That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes that last stage can get out some of those really fine particles.

GE RPWFE Refrigerator Water Filter

Rounding off our list of best refrigerator water filters is one from GE.

We might have saved the best for last.

They’re masters of all things technical.

Anyway, this is their most advanced filtration system and has been tested and verified to filter five trace pharmaceuticals.

This filter is also super easy to install. No need for any tools or water turnoff to get this cartridge inside of the refrigerator.

Is this GE water filter going to be the best refrigerator water filter of all time?

We are just moments away from finding out!

Picking The Correct Water Filter For Your Refrigerator

Purchasing a water filter is going to be a fairly simple process.

There are really and truly only a couple of things you want to look out for.

If you’re going to deviate from the water filter sold by your manufacturer, then make sure you check a few key items.

First and foremost, the best Kenmore filter in the world isn’t going to do you any good if you own a Frigidaire.

Make sure that your refrigerator is compatible! This one almost goes without saying.

Sometimes model numbers look the same and it can be tricky to match it up exactly so just double check before buying!

Is it NSF certified?

Has some other organization certified and verified the filter to be able to get rid of all the major contaminants?

Certifications aren’t 100% necessary in our book, but they can provide peace of mind and a solid baseline of filtering standards.

What Does It Filter?

Most filters will hit all the big ones, but does it filter things like pharmaceuticals?

If so, how many different types?

This may not be important in your area, but if you know your water contains a certain contaminant, it’s vital to make sure you check exactly what is that filter filtering out.

The last thing you’ll want to look out for is how often you have to change it.

The standard is about six months but be careful!

Some need to be changed as often as every three months while some will last you even longer than nine months.

So, what is the final conclusion?

Which refrigerator water filter beat out the rest? Of course, you’ll first have to consider which filter is compatible with your individual refrigerator, but almost all can fit each other with the correct adapter. Anyway – which one rose above the rest? Which one will give you the tastiest, healthiest water?

We have to choose the IcePure Premium Refrigerator Replacement Water Filter (seventh one on our list).

We went with this one for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it’s not directly from the manufacturer. For this reason, it’s going to be more affordable and faster than if you bought directly from them.

It also works with a much wider range of refrigerators than most. This is nice if you have a new refrigerator and maybe have some extra filters laying around you’ll want to use. This filters out pharmaceuticals as well as lead, mercury, and a bunch of other contaminants. This filter will give you water that not only tastes great but is good for your health.

Thanks for reading, everyone! We hope you have tasty water coming your way in the very near future.
